The Twilight Singers- Black Is The Colour Of My True Love’s Hair
A great arrangement of instruments, and a great tone. But nothing especially powerful or incredible. It’s not exactly a cheerful song either, which can be a good thing.
This is a cover of a very old folk song, and the tone is made a lot moodier and depressing. The harmonies in it are something to be very appreciated, and the music itself is rather beautiful. The singing is a bit quiet and reluctant to throw a lot of power in. I do love how it builds up throughout the track, and the instrumentation becomes so much more powerful, and much more melodic too. It reminds me of many bands of years ago. I can’t put my finger on which though. A modern band the song sounds like it’s from would probably be “Smashing Pumpkins”.
The downside is probably the fact that the vocals are restraining themselves, if they were slightly louder it would be a much ~easier~ listen and it would feel a bit more resolving, I guess it might not be their fault to be honest seeing as it could be the sound quality maybe. Also it can get quite boring near to the end because it’s pretty predictable and there is nothing that comes into it that you aren’t expecting, it’s as if you’re listening to the same sort of thing all the way through, ah well most bands are like that!
